Risk Factor

Type 1 Diabetes

“I was in my 3rd trimester when the pandemic began. At a time when we would have liked to rely on our friends and family, we had to be isolated; dealing with the lack of community was difficult. We’re fortunate in many ways though and we have to remind ourselves of that, hopefully our son will be able look back on the sacrifices we made during this time and be thankful. I try very hard to not let my diagnosis define me, but it does dictate much of my life and the decisions I make. Now, my diabetes and Covid has forced a label on me, ‘High Risk’. I feel like this pandemic has shown that a lot of people don’t seem to care about others, unfortunately, it’s sad and hurtful that some are willing to say ‘Sacrifice the Weak’. Now is not the time to be selfish though, we have to protect our neighbors and ourselves. Assume everyone is vulnerable and just be kind.”
