“I take this all very seriously. As a Type 1 Diabetic, my body always takes longer than a non-T1D’s to fight off any kind of illness. On top of the daily threat to my life posed by the illness itself, any kind of infection or virus causes relentlessly erratic blood sugars which brings on it’s own onslaught of complications; like coma, organ failure, and death. And then in turn, those erratic blood sugars make my body much less able to defend and repair itself from something like Covid. So yeah, I’m staying home and I get pissed when I see people who don’t take others’ lives into account. It’s the height of narcissism, and I’m not willing to mince words on the matter to make this conversation more ‘comfortable’. Ya know, there also seems to be some kind of dissonance happening where there’s this illusion that this is a battle between those who cannot tolerate quarantine and those who can. It’s as though to say, ‘You do you’. Do you really think I’m enjoying this? My mental health is under just as much strain as yours, except your actions are now exacerbating any morsel of well-being I might be clinging to given that you are, under no uncertain terms, increasing the threat tenfold because you either think this is a hoax, or you can’t see past the limited scope of your own experience. I believe we’re all compassionate creatures at root. It’s a choice to turn away from that virtue. I’m disappointed to see so many choosing so poorly. Personal freedom and cooperation are not mutually exclusive. In fact, they’re fundamentally entangled. How about we all try the latter for the sake of the former.”
