Risk Factor

Crohn’s Disease/Celiac Disease

“I’m not a stranger to having to adapt. A diagnosis like Crohn’s Disease is a complete lifestyle change and the ‘High Risk’ have largely overcome similar situations within our own means. Because of this, we’ve learned to care for ourselves as well as others. The lack of empathy displayed during the pandemic is astounding. There seems to be an unwillingness to care for our neighbors but we’re only as healthy as those around us. With the need for isolation, it appears there are some people that have never had to sit with themselves, and the mental strain from that is understandable. The ‘High Risk’ have already learned to be patient with ourselves; we’ve already faced our mortality. My hope is that this experience will bring us together rather than separate us; everyone is ‘High Risk’ at some point in their lives.”
